It's been a long while since I blogged and even more since I did a Friday five but I think it's a tradition that I'm going to get back to the blog. So here are my five of the week: 1. It was our first week after vacation and the kids are still at home so it has been crazy but I'm very happy to be back. I love to be in my own space, being an introvert isn't good in an hotel full of people. 2. I'm reading The Mortal Instruments. Yes I know I'm coming late to the party but I'm loving it. The characters and the world is so rich and interesting that I read the first 3 books in 4 and a half days! 3. I miss writing, I need to revise DR but I need to concentrate for that because I want to change several things, the kids jumping around all the time doesn't help so I'm focusing right now on reading, editing others work and relaxing. 4. I miss the Vampire Diaries. I need Damon Salvatore for inspiration! Bring him back now. I'm an addict! 5. Last, I have to shout to the world that I just went to see Despicable me 2 a few days ago with the kids and again I found miself wanting my own minions. I know you want some too...
1. I have been studying a lot of grammar, since I’m done with Glowing shadow for now. I want to memorize the elements of style, I hope by the end of the summer I can make it.
2.Also I have been helping the kids with lots of projects. Seriously they send projects for my 3 year old in kindergarten, I couldn’t believe it. Anyway I tried to help in a way the work was from them but they understood it, so it was long but at the end had good results.
3. I have three noisy stories in my head. I’m trying to write every idea on a notebook to further outline them after I go back again to Glowing Shadow and the summer with the kids.
4. Yesterday I went with one of my best friends to see the movie Snow white and the huntsman. Well, I loved Charlize Theron as always, she does an amazing witch. As a lover of fantasy I loved what they did with the setting and the story. Kirsten Stewart was good but I couldn’t keep from thinking she was Bella, she couldn’t pull me out of that memory. What I liked most was this:
5. A random fact about me that you might not know. I not only know Spanish and English, I also know Galician, a Romance language close to Portuguese. I know it because my parents are from Galicia, Spain and they usually talk between them in that language at home. I learned it because I heard them and when I went to see my grand parents there were all these people talking to me on that language so I had to learn. But the reason that I think that made me understand it and learn it was that my mother when was angry with me always spoke in Galician so if I wanted to know what she was saying and my punishment I must understand her. It came naturally to me since I heard it since born, but I can only understand, speak and read it. I tried and tried, but I can’t write it.
1. I love the hunger games books! They have a great world building and I'm learning a lot of good writing!
2. Sott, my instructor in my writing class, said to me that my current problem is my narrative voice that maybe is getting lost between all this two languages so I have to find my narrative voice in English. Something that the first days seemed impossible to me, there are a lot of things I don't know, many rules of grammar, a lot of words I don't know to manipulate them and create my own voice. But I know I have one and have to find it in English! My husband told me why I was on a hurry, to take one step at a time, to continue studying, to keep reading a lot, to see more movies and programs in English and to find someone to talk with in English. And that if that takes me a lot, I should take that time and do it because is my dream and I choose a hard dream.(Wait time something hard for me) So I'm back on track. Any suggestions for finding my narrative voice are welcome as well as ways to improve my vocabulary. Oh and if you want to talk with someone that haven't talked in English for a long time, here I am!
3. I’m almost recovered from my cold but now I have Carlos sick! Oh my, we have a lot of viruses around here.
4. My little boy is starting to sleep all night it seems that finally we found a way to control his reflux, well at least for a few days!
5. Yesterday my husband surprised me with the new CD of Roxette. Maybe you don't know but I'm a huge fan. In Madrid he once but ticket for a small and intimate concert and it was perfect. Hearing again Marie's voice brought back to my mind this song: Roxette, Almost Unreal
I know that the Mario Bros film was terrible but the song is great. Here I put you the lyrics:
Babe, come in from the cold and put that coat to rest.
Step inside, take a deep breath, and do what you do best.
Yes, kick off them shoes and leave those city streets.
I do believe love came our way, and fate did arrange for us to meet.
I love when you do that hocus pocus to me.
The way that you touch, you've got the power to heal.
You give me that look, it's almost unreal. It's almost unreal.
Hey, we can't stop the rain, let's find a place by the fire.
Sometimes I feel, strange as it seems,
you've been in my dreams all my life.
I love when you do that hocus pocus to me.
The way that you touch, you've got the power to heal.
You give me that look, it's almost unreal. It's almost unreal.
It's a crazy world out there. It's a crazy...
Let's hope our prayers are in good hands tonight.
Oh, I love when you do that hocus pocus to me.
The way that you touch, you've got the power to heal.
You give me that look, it's almost unreal.
It's almost unreal, so unreal.
Yea come on and do the hocus pocus to me.
The way that you touch, you've got the power to heal.
You give me that look, it's almost unreal. It's almost unreal, yea.
It's almost unreal. Do the hocus pocus to me. Do the hocus pocus...
1. I have been working hard this week. I'm still working in my query letter for my class. Right now we are doing different types of them.
2. Also I realized that I will have to change some big things on the plot of GS. I'm working again in the outline so I can see where to apply the changes. I'm making it in english and spanish.
3.Also I'm working in the three dimensions of my characters to have a better perspective of them.
4.I finally have done some translation as you can see in the bar on the left, although I haven't revised that part. I will do it next.
5.Well those are all the updates from my writing. How are you doing?
I haven't posted in many time so I thought it was a good idea to post my friday five.
1. I have been very busy with homework of my writing class but I love it!! The class is great and I know I will learn a lot.
2. I also started again with the revision translation of GS and I think I am going to change some thing of the outline, right now I'm working on that.
3. Tomorrow Is my father's and husband's birthday! Yes, their birthday is on the same date with 20 years of difference. It is a great coincidence. I remember when I was a little girl I always said that I will marry a man who's birthday was on the same date as my father and I married one! LOL. Another coincidence is that between my mother and I are 20 years of difference and 30 with my father so now with my husband we are 29 (me), 39 ( my husband), 49 (my mother) and 59 ( my father). We are a strange family!
4. I have a new orchid!! My husband brought it yesterday. I will take a picture and post it on monday.
5. Carlos and Alex had a cold all the week. Now Carlos is ok but Alex now is sick of the stomach. I hate virus!!
1. Dia de reyes went really well, the kids liked the presents and we really had a good time in my parents house. My mom actually didn't say anything hurtfull to me...
2. I have to start my diet again tomorrow. I ate a lot of rosca, chocolate and roasted chestnuts. So if I want to continue losing weight I have to go back to my balanced way of eating. 10 pounds more to go.( that Tiramisu of Tracy has to wait *snif*)
3. This is the last weekend of the winter vacations of Carlitos so we are going to take him to a place he chooses, he haven't decided but I think is going to be fun.
4. I have to take out the Christmas decorations on Saturday and I hate it. When you put it on you don't mind the work because you want to see the three and want your house full of Christmas spirit. Besides everyone wants to cooperate but anyone wants to take them out!
5. I didn't move forward on the translation but I did in the revisions. I hope I can go back to my schedule of writing on Monday.
1. Yesterday my best friend and auntie by heart of my sons went to Carlos school to pick him up, because we can't. She does that many times but yesterday Carlos started to shout and cry in the middle of the school that he will not go with her. He shouted so much that the director nun came to see what happened and calmed him down. When they arrived home my best friend was crying, I felt so bad. She truly loves my sons, shes been there since minute one. I know how much it hurts when carlos does that because he makes it a lot with me, he always wants his dad. Anyway we had to punish him and make him talked with her. Now they are ok.
2. I got a flu. I hate flu! My nose is red as rudolph , I can't speak ( well my husband will be happy for that) and I feel like crap. The worst is that the kids also have it.
3. I finished the translation of the first chapter of BTLAS and I hope to end this revision ( i know there will be many others) today or tomorrow. So I'm moving forward.
4. I hope this weekend I can sleep a lot!!
5. I am trying a new recipe for " tarta de santiago" is a very popular cake that is done in Galicia , Spain. And its made with almonds , sugar , etc. My father loves it so I'm trying recipes for this christmas dinner make it for him. When I get a good one I will post it here.
